چکیده

Genome remodeling occurs in cells as either a slow evolutionary process, or a rapid programmed developmental process. Intriguing examples of each type permeate the tree of life. This summer REU will feature research projects related to rapid programmed developmental processes. Algorithmic details of the developmental program of an organism allow one to investigate the mathematical and technological consequences of being able to control individual program steps. [10] surveys programmed genome remodeling in ciliates. Ciliates have two types of nuclei, microand macronuclei. Micronuclei are encrypted versions of macronuclei. Towards illustration of the relation between the micronuclear and macronuclear genomes, consider this diagram:

P-118: Stepwise Morphometric Changesduring In Vitro Maturation of Goat Oocytein Relation with Nuclear Remodeling and Developmental Competencee

Background: Successful in vitro maturation (IVM) of oocytes is an important step for production of livestock through assisted reproductive techniques including somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). Obtaining an optimal duration for maturation of oocyte is essential, since over exposure to maturation medium results in oocyte aging, while under exposure leads to production of immature incompetent...

The SUMO pathway is developmentally regulated and required for programmed DNA elimination in Paramecium tetraurelia.

Extensive genome-wide remodeling occurs during the formation of the somatic macronuclei from the germ line micronuclei in ciliated protozoa. This process is limited to sexual reproduction and includes DNA amplification, chromosome fragmentation, and the elimination of internal segments of DNA. Our efforts to define the pathways regulating these events revealed a gene encoding a homologue of ubi...

Transposon Domestication versus Mutualism in Ciliate Genome Rearrangements

Ciliated protists rearrange their genomes dramatically during nuclear development via chromosome fragmentation and DNA deletion to produce a trimmer and highly reorganized somatic genome. The deleted portion of the genome includes potentially active transposons or transposon-like sequences that reside in the germline. Three independent studies recently showed that transposase proteins of the DD...

RNA-mediated programming of developmental genome rearrangements in Paramecium tetraurelia.

The germ line genome of ciliates is extensively rearranged during development of the somatic macronucleus. Numerous sequences are eliminated, while others are amplified to a high ploidy level. In the Paramecium aurelia group of species, transformation of the maternal macronucleus with transgenes at high copy numbers can induce the deletion of homologous genes in sexual progeny, when a new macro...

Unveiling the genetic loci for a panicle developmental trait using genome-wide association study in rice

Panicle size has a high correlation with grain yield in rice. There is a bottleneck to identify the additional quantitative trait loci (QTL) for panicle size due to the conventional traits used for QTL mapping. To identify more genetic loci for panicle size, a panicle developmental trait (LNTB, the length from panicle neck-knot to the first primary branch in the rachis) related to panicle size ...
